I used to pass the Chineham Tollhouse e...Hi Keith,<br /><br />I used to pass the Chineham Tollhouse every year or so as I travelled down the A33, starting in the days before it was extended. <br /><br />There used to be a sign near it - in front of the house when approaching from the Reading direction, IIRC, maybe near where the gate is in your photo - saying "L'Ortolan". <br /><br />I never knew if it was the name of the house or if it was some sort of French restaurant. <br /><br />That sign disappeared some years ago (10 or more?) but I am now a bit baffled to find that there is a French restaurant of the same name in Shinfield near Reading but which is nearly 12 miles away from this Tollhouse!<br /><br />Having lived in the Chineham Tollhouse, I wondered if you might know anything about the sign?Andyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11427223362915569153noreply@blogger.com
